Sermon Date: 12-31-2017 Preacher: Doug Sturgeon Text: John 3
1. Before we were born again we possessed no ability and no desire to love God and the things of God. Share ways that, since being born again, the Lord has given you the desire and ability to love him and keep his word.
2. Pastor Doug referenced other texts alongside John 3 that described works of the flesh, the very things we used to walk in when we lived under our old nature (see 1 Cor. 6:9-11, Gal. 5:19-21, etc.). As these lists are not exhaustive, can you share other works of the flesh that you used to walk in? Describe how your relationship to these things has changed? Does the presence of these ‘works of the flesh’ disqualify a person who claims to be born again from inheriting the kingdom of God? Why/why not?
3. Are there unbelievers visiting your GCGs currently? How does today’s sermon apply to them? What should you, as a GCG, say to them in light of the need of the new birth, especially given that they are not able to ‘make themselves’ born again (since it is a work of God’s Spirit)? What does the Bible call them to?
